Some evenings are planned around kickoff. Others involve the sofa, something to eat, and twenty minutes of scrolling before finally choosing a film.
The problem is that streaming subscriptions often make you pick a side. One service is great for films and series but has little to offer sports fans. Another gives you the matches you care about, but you barely open it for the rest of the week.
Movistar Plus+ sits somewhere in the middle. Its broader Plan Libre combines films, series, documentaries and TV channels with live sport, so your subscription does not become useless the moment the final whistle blows.
Your viewing habits probably change more than you think
Think about what you actually watched during the last seven days.
Perhaps there was a football match on Sunday, a couple of episodes of a series during the week, and a film on Friday night. You might have watched highlights over breakfast or put on a documentary when you wanted something different.
That’s a much more realistic picture of entertainment than dividing people neatly into “sports fans” and “movie fans.”
For viewers whose habits move around like this, Movistar Plus+ makes an interesting case for keeping more entertainment in one place.
The current Cine, Series y Deportes plan includes more than 80 TV channels alongside movies, series, documentaries, entertainment and sports.
When the match actually matters
Live football is where many general streaming services stop being useful.
The sports offering here includes a selected LALIGA EA SPORTS match each round, the full LALIGA HYPERMOTION schedule, plus selected Champions League and Premier League matches. The wider sports schedule also covers competitions in tennis, basketball, padel, rugby, cycling, motorsport and more.
That variety gives Movistar Plus+ more everyday appeal than a subscription you keep purely for one competition.
There is an important distinction, though. This is not the same as getting every match from every major football competition. If one specific club or tournament is the reason you’re subscribing, checking the current coverage before paying is sensible.
For someone who enjoys live football alongside other sports without needing absolutely everything, the combination becomes much more appealing.
Tomorrow night might be completely different
After an evening spent following football, you may have zero interest in watching another sporting event the next day.
That’s when the other half of the subscription starts earning its place.
The movie catalogue includes Spanish and international cinema across comedy, suspense, action, drama, horror, science fiction, family films and other genres. There is also a mixture of newer releases and established titles rather than a catalogue focused on a single style of film.
Series are similarly varied. Movistar’s catalogue includes its own original productions as well as international series, with genres ranging from crime and mystery to comedy, drama, action, romance and science fiction.
That makes Movistar Plus+ less dependent on one reason to subscribe. You can arrive for live sports and still have plenty to watch on nights when there isn’t a match you’re interested in.
It also works when two people want different things
One small feature becomes surprisingly important when a subscription is shared: simultaneous viewing.
The current Plan Libre allows two simultaneous streams. You can also watch across compatible devices, download content and use features such as profiles and live TV controls.
So if someone wants to watch live football on the television while somebody else would rather continue a series, neither person necessarily has to give up the screen.
It’s the sort of practical detail that sounds minor on a feature list but matters much more after you’ve lived with a streaming service for a few months.
A subscription that doesn’t assume you only like one thing
There is also no requirement to move your internet service to Movistar. The standalone plans can be subscribed to regardless of your internet provider, and there is no permanence on the monthly options.
For people who have no interest in sport, there is a cheaper Cine y Series plan. But if your weekends regularly include football, tennis or basketball and your quieter evenings are spent watching films and series, the broader option is where Movistar Plus+ becomes easier to understand.
You don’t have to decide whether you’re a sports person or a movie person. Most of us aren’t that consistent anyway.
Sometimes you want the tension of a match that has to be watched live. Sometimes you want a good film and absolutely no reason to leave the sofa.
Having both available under the same subscription is the point.
